Southern Youth And Family Services

  • Is an independent community organisation incorporated as an Association under the Associations Incorporation Act 1984. 
  • Has legal Authority to Fund Raise through Subdivision 30-13A of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 and all gifts and donations are tax deductible.
  • Is managed by a Board of Management elected at an Annual General Meeting by the members.
  • Began in December 1977 bringing together local people concerned about homelessness and young people. Opened its first service in January 1979.

Main Aims

  • To provide support and assistance to young people who are disadvantaged, homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, and their families.
  • To act as an advocate for, and facilitator of, structural change that achieves improved living situations for young people and their families.

    In general, the Association aims to act in a way which will increase access for young people and families to:

    a)   Secure, affordable and individual housing
    b)   Employment, education and training
    c)   Secure and adequate income
    d)   Health supports and services
    e)   Appropriate support services
    f)    Clothing, food and other practical assistance

  • Accommodation - crisis, short-term and medium-term
  • Housing - medium and long-term
  • Financial and material assistance - meals, food, clothing, emergency cash assistance, personal items, household items, transport costs, educational, employment and training needs
  • Health and personal care - primary health care, antenatal support, health tests, screening, referral, counselling, showers and first aid
  • Skills education - living and social skills, recreational skills and job seeking skills
  • Advocacy
  • Information and referral
  • Support - mediation, counselling, assessment, conflict resolution and suicide prevention
  • Other relevant services and supports
