This page contains information to assist referring workers in submitting a TILA application on behalf of the young person to Southern Youth and Family Services (SYFS) for assessment.

Tips to ensure a smooth assessment process include:

  • Applications must be received through a referring organisation. Young people cannot apply directly to TILA as the premise of the allowance is the young person is being supported in their transition by the referring organisation and receiving assistance to achieve their short and medium-term goals.
  • Check that the young person is eligible to receive the TILA allowance by taking the time to read the TILA Guidelines or by contacting TILA if unsure
  • Ensure you read the forms carefully and answer all required questions
  • Before submitting forms check for errors and omissions as this will reduce the time TILA staff spend following up referring workers
  • Include all required supporting documentation
  • Include a completed TILA Payment Form where supplier payments are sought (Option 2) and you have provided quotes

If you are not sure whether you have completed the application form correctly or require assistance in doing so, please email TILA in the first instance. You may also like to try the TILA Helpline on 1300 761 961, however, the TILA Helpline is primarily to assist referring organisations and young people with queries they may have surrounding eligibility for the TILA allowance.

When leaving a message on the TILA Helpline please leave the following information:

  • Your Name
  • Your Service
  • Contact Phone Number with an area code
  • Nature of the enquiry and
  • The Young Person's name.
TILA staff will prioritise messages which contain the above information and will return calls as soon as possible.

Methods of submitting a TILA Application

When you are ready to submit an application you have three options available. We ask that referring workers do not use more than one method to forward TILA applications to SYFS as this creates duplicate applications which will slow down processing for all applicants.

The methods in order of preference are as follows:

  • via fax to 02 4228 4613. Please include a Fax Cover Sheet.
  • via email to . In the SUBJECT field of your email, please place the young person's name.
  • via post to - TILA PO Box 23 Wollongong NSW 2520.
